What is an SSM compound?
An SSM compound is an offer to settle an offence without prosecution.
The law is section 38A of the Companies Commission of Malaysia Act 2001, in SSM's own reprint. It lets SSM's Registrar, with the written consent of the Public Prosecutor, compound an offence by making a written offer to the person suspected of committing it, for an amount “not exceeding fifty per centum of the maximum fine for that offence”. It covers offences under that Act and the laws in its First Schedule, which include the Companies Act 2016, the Registration of Businesses Act 1956 and the Limited Liability Partnerships Act 2012.

Does an unpaid compound stop a company getting an Attestation of Good Standing?
It can. Among SSM's criteria for an Attestation of Company Good Standing is that “The company or its directors do not have any outstanding compound with SSM”; the others include being incorporated for at least 18 months, having lodged the latest Annual Return and Audited Financial Statements, and having no pending prosecution case with SSM. SAFEDATA-SSM documents, the attestation included, are sold at safedata-ssm.com, the portal Safeguards KioskMedia runs as SSM's appointed Technology and Service Provider, and are coming soon to Tap.It kiosks.
