Can you renew a business registration at a Tap.It kiosk?
Yes, at Tap.It kiosks listed with SSM services: SSM names the kiosk as a place to renew a business on its own pages.
Tap.It is the self-service kiosk network run by Safeguards KioskMedia (M) Sdn. Bhd. SSM's Business Renewal Platform page lists “Kiosk Tap.it Services” for business renewal, linked to Tap.It's list of locations with SSM services.
ROB is registration under the Registration of Businesses Act 1956, the register for businesses and enterprises, usually the smaller, owner-run kind; companies such as Sdn Bhd and Berhad come under Registration of Company (ROC).
Who can renew a business registration?
SSM's renewal guideline says: “Only the owner or Person Responsible is allowed to make a renewal application.” SSM's knowledge hub describes a Person Responsible as “the representative of the business owner/partners”, and lists a Tap.It kiosk at an SSM office or a selected store among the places where a Person Responsible can renew, beside Bank Simpanan Nasional and Bank Kerjasama Rakyat.

How is the renewal fee made up?
A renewal at a Tap.It kiosk has no single total, because SSM's fee changes with the kind of name, the number of branches and the number of years. SSM sets its own fee in its Table of Fees; Safeguards KioskMedia adds its RM3 service fee once per transaction. For one year of renewal, SSM's fee is RM60 for a trade name or RM30 for a personal name, against Safeguards KioskMedia's RM3, so SSM's fee is most of what you pay.
When should a business renew?
Renew before the expiry date. SSM's renewal guideline says a certificate can be renewed at any time before the registration expires and up to twelve months after it.
The Registration of Businesses Act 1956, section 5A, words it as a renewal made to the Registrar within the thirty days before the registration, or the previous renewal, expires, for no more than five years at each renewal.
- Before expiry
SSM's renewal guideline: “at any time before the registration expiry date”.
- 30 days before expiry
The Act's wording: renewal is made “within thirty days before the date of expiry”.
- Expiry date
After a renewal, the new expiry date is stated on the certificate.
- Up to 12 months after
SSM's renewal guideline: “up to twelve (12) months after the registration expiry date”.
- More than a year after
SSM: “Business renewal cannot be made for a business expired more than one (1) year.”
Renewing late is possible for up to twelve months, but carrying on business on the expired registration in the meantime is an offence: see what happens if you renew late.

Where else can you renew?
SSM lists three places to renew a business registration, and the Tap.It kiosk is one of them. Online, the owner renews on EzBiz: log in at ssm4u.com.my, open ezbiz Online, choose “Renewal by Owner” under My Business Services, pick the number of years and proceed to payment; the certificate and the business information (SSM's optional RM10 item, only if you bought it with the renewal) can be downloaded for 90 days after approval. EzBiz needs an EzBiz Online user account, which SSM says can be activated at SSM counters or at Kiosk Tap.It: see activation at a Tap.It kiosk.
