SSM and kiosk terms, explained.

Audited Financial Statements are the financial statements a company lodges with SSM.

Having the latest Annual Return and Audited Financial Statements (or an Exempt Private Company certificate) lodged is one of SSM's criteria for an Attestation of Company Good Standing, and SSM's Financial Comparison and Financial Historical documents compare the information in them.

Business renewal agent is SSM's own name for Safeguards KioskMedia's role at Tap.It kiosks: “SSM has appointed Safeguards Kioskmedia (M) Sdn Bhd as business renewal agent via Kiosk Tap.It.”

Tap.It kiosks listed with SSM services offer business renewal (ROB), compound payment and SSM4U activation. SSM's Business Renewal Platform page links “Kiosk Tap.it Services” for both EzBiz user activation and business renewal. A renewal or a compound payment costs SSM's fee or the compound amount plus Safeguards KioskMedia's RM3 service fee, and SSM4U activation has no charge to the user. Safeguards KioskMedia's other SSM appointment, for SAFEDATA-SSM, is Technology and Service Provider.

A compound is a written offer by SSM's Registrar to settle an offence by payment instead of prosecution.

Under section 38A of the Companies Commission of Malaysia Act 2001 the Registrar needs the Public Prosecutor's written consent, the amount cannot exceed fifty per cent of the maximum fine for the offence, and the offer can be made after the offence and before any prosecution is instituted; once an offence is compounded, no prosecution is instituted for it. The Act's First Schedule covers the Companies Act 2016, the Registration of Businesses Act 1956 and the Limited Liability Partnerships Act 2012. Tap.It kiosks listed with SSM services offer SSM compound payment at the compound amount plus a RM3 service fee, subject to approved service terms; compounds under the Companies Act go through CRS.

CRS, the Corporate Registry System, is “SSM's new online platform for company incorporation, updating company information and lodging statutory documents”; its Phase 1 commenced on 14 July 2026.

SSM's CRS FAQ says all matters relating to compounds under the Companies Act 2016 and the Companies Act 1965 are now fully managed through CRS, including payments for compounds imposed on companies and directors, and that any party may make such a payment with a valid compound reference number while the compound is still unpaid. Those compounds are no longer accepted over the counter, through the EzBiz portal or by e-mail.

EzBiz Online is one of the SSM systems SSM4U opens, and the one SSM's guideline uses for renewing a business registration online.

“The renewal of business through Ezbiz Online is auto approved”, but “Applicants must be registered as an Ezbiz Online user first”. An EzBiz Online account is for Malaysian citizens or permanent residents aged 18 and above, and SSM says its activation “can be carried out at SSM counters as well as at Kiosk Tap.It”; it only needs to be done once. SSM lists online payment through EzBiz Online among its compound payment methods; Companies Act compounds go through CRS instead.

An LLP is a limited liability partnership, a form of business under the Limited Liability Partnerships Act 2012.

That Act is in the First Schedule of the Companies Commission of Malaysia Act 2001, so SSM's Registrar may compound offences under it. MyLLP is one of the SSM systems SSM4U opens, and only verified SSM4U users reach it, as one of their core services. On SAFEDATA-SSM, “LLP documents” is one of the document tabs, next to the business, company, audit firm, company listing, CSID and personal involvement tabs.

MyKad is the Malaysian identity card.

SSM's SSM4U user manual lists MyKAD, with MyPR, MyKAS and MyTentera, as the ID types of local users, who may verify their SSM4U account at an SSM counter in person or via the Tap.it Kiosk by inserting the card and scanning a thumbprint; Foreigner National ID users activate online instead. A Personal Involvement search on SAFEDATA-SSM is looked up by a person's MyKad number.

A Person Responsible is, in SSM's Knowledge Hub, “the representative of the business owner/partners”.

SSM's renewal guideline says “Only the owner or Person Responsible is allowed to make a renewal application” for a business registration, for 1 to 5 years at a time. SSM lists where a Person Responsible can renew: “Kiosk Tap.it at any SSM office or selected stores”, Bank Simpanan Nasional and Bank Kerjasama Rakyat. The fees are under ROB.

SSM, Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia, is the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM).

Businesses register with SSM under ROB and companies under ROC, and SSM's fee for each company and business information product is based on the fee under schedule (Regulation 8), Companies Regulations 2017. SSM's Registrar can compound offences (see Compound), and SSM4U is SSM's single sign-on to its systems. The counter on safedata-ssm.com showed 9,232,049 businesses registered with SSM on 16 Oct 2026; the companies are counted under ROC.

SSM4U is SSM's “one stop website where all SSM systems are accessible at once, with just a single-sign-on for each SSM system user”, open 24 hours, seven days a week.

It is the landing page for SSM systems including EzBiz, MyCoID, MBRS, MyLLP, XCESS and DCTC, and “All SSM customers are required to register as SSM4U users.” Unverified users can only access non-core services such as e-Search and e-Compound; verifying (activating) the account opens core services such as EzBiz, MyLLP, e-BOS and MBRS. Holders of a MyKAD, MyPR, MyKAS or MyTentera card can activate at an SSM counter or via the Tap.It kiosk, where Safeguards KioskMedia makes no charge; Foreigner National ID users activate online, processed within three working days.
